FAQs

How do I apply?

Admission Procedure and Entry Exams

The following admission procedure applies to the English taught programmes, whereby students are provided with the opportunity to obtain a second Bachelor degree diploma from the International University College partner institution - University of Wales Institute Cardiff, UK, as well as from the other universities IUC has agreements with.

Upon arrival, international students have to sit for an English entry exam which has two components - a written part and an interview. However, international students whose native tongue is English, or who can provide TOEFL IBT certificate with score of min. 79 points or IELTS 6.0 (or the equivalent score from other internationally recognized testing systems), do not have to sit for the written exam. Applicants with insufficient English language competencies will be advised to enroll in an intensive language teaching semester (as a part of the whole study curriculum).

How can I financially support my studies?

Scholarships as reduction of the tuition fee - a certain number of the best applicants according to their results on the entry exam at International University College receive a scholarship for the first year of their education. For the 2011/2012 academic year, the scholarship amounts to EUR 100 a month.

After the first year of education at International University College, each student participates in a scholarship qualification, whereby an Academic Board takes final decisions depending on students’ performance from previous semesters! For more information, please follow this link.

Additional scholarship for the first year of education can be awarded to applicants admitted with a SAT1 score of over 1250 points from two sections. The amount of the scholarship is determined by the particular result of each student.

Full scholarship (covering the full tuition) is granted to students admitted with a SAT 1 score of over 2250.

Scholarship as reduction of the tuition fee is granted to IUC students, whose siblings or wife/husband are simultaneously studying at IUC – they both get 15% tuition fee reduction.

• Student Loans

IUC students can take student loans on preferential terms and conditions according to the Student law scheme for undergraduate and graduate students in Bulgaria. Bulgarian Ministry of Education, Youth and Science (MEYS) has contracts with two banks - Bank “DSK” and “Raiffeisenbank” EAD, as they are the only institutions having the right to grant student loans under the conditions approved by MEYS. For more information, please follow this link.

Paid internships

The paid summer internships that we organize provide a good opportunity for additional funds. Students can save from EUR 400 to EUR 1000 per month doing their internship abroad and from EUR 200 to EUR 500 for internships in Bulgaria.

IUC offers different options for combining paid internships and education. This allows us to educate students who do not have sufficient funds for education. IUC also offers internships in the U.S. under the Work & Travel program, internships in Europe under the Erasmus program, and others.

How long does the education at IUC take?

IUC offer two cycles of education - 3 years (six semesters) and 4 years (8 semesters).

The 3 - year cycle can be chosen if the applicant wishes to start directly in the English-taught programs, which are offered in collaboration with University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, UK OR if he/she aims to study in one of the Bulgarian programs.

The 4 - year cycle can be chosen if the applicant wishes to study an initial preparatory year in English language and then proceed to the remaining three. Four-year education is also compulsory for students, who have selected the University of Portsmouth, UK programs.

How can I improve my level of English?

Applicant students wishing to study in the English-taught programmes, but who do not meet the language requirements, have the opportunity to enroll in a preparatory year in English and then continue in the major three years.

Students who are not confident in their knowledge of English language can start their education skipping the preparatory year, but in the meantime improving their language skills through supplementary classes offered at IUC, which are addition to the compulsory part of the teaching process.

More information on the additional English language education can be found here.
